Reduced Quarantine Times Reminder/Clarification: LCC1 did adopt the shortened (10 day) quarantine timeline for individuals who never exhibit any of the symptoms during the 10 day period. Additionally, those with no symptoms during quarantine can test out early (7 days minimum), but ONLY IF they have a negative test within the 48 hours prior to getting released. This means that to be released after day 7, there still can be no symptoms & obtaining a negative test result from day 5,6, or 7! Negative tests prior to the 48 hour window preceding the "hoped for" day of release from quarantine do nothing to reduce the quarantine time!

On Saturday, November 28th the Highland Jr High Student Council held a 5K Run/Walk event to raise money for a local family. The event was a great success! People participated in person at Wakonda State Park, and others chose to complete their 5K on their own. Together, $2556.00 was raised and donated to the Stark Family to help with medical expenses and other financial needs. Thank you to all community members who participated and supported our event!

HIGHLAND HIGH SCHOOL PARENTS Grades will be finalized for progress reports this Friday, November, 20th. Progress reports will be emailed at the beginning of next week. Progress reports mark the halfway point through the 2nd quarter. Your student will have 4 weeks left until the end of the 2nd quarter on 12/18/20. Grades can be monitored weekly on the SIS parent portal. If you need more information on how to access the SIS parent portal please contact the high school office. Please check google classroom updates for assigned work while in distance learning and on distance learning days while we are utilizing the hybrid learning model. Additionally, you will need to check SIS to see if your student has completed all assignments while at school and at home for distance learning. Please also check your email. Teachers email often with concerns that your student may need assistance in completing work. Please call or email your child’s teachers with any questions or concerns. Finally, thank you all for your hard work during this time. We do appreciate and understand that distance learning is quite the adjustment and at times very difficult for families. Please reach out to us if you need assistance. We continue to have tutoring daily for students that need help at the high school. Your student may attend tutoring with any teacher after school from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thanks again and have a good evening.

Those that have established internet connection with Mark Twain through the School Agreement -- billing and a lease agreement will be available in the next day or two. Updates on internet options: All names that have requested Mark Twain services have been sent to them for installation. They have all but 4 people either hooked up or notified that they cannot provide service at the location. Those 4 are in line to be installed. Additional T-Mobile hotspots have been requested & we are waiting for the contract, which I am told will be here by the end of the week -- then upon signing the contract, T-Mobile will work to get us the hotspots as quickly as possible.

Parents/Guardians: due to a very recent development, Highland Schools will be closed for “in-person” learning tomorrow while the district works through contact tracing of additional students and staff who will need to be quarantined. Highland students will not attend tomorrow, but will still be able to interact with their teachers and be involved in distance learning. The length of time that Highland will remain in The Distance-Learning model will be determined in the next day or two. Please look to google classroom for assignments and communication from teachers. K-1 students/parents will receive more information tomorrow. As of now, Outside athletics/activities will continue as scheduled for those that are not quarantined. Parents/Guardians: There have been a few requests, since learning of the recent quarantining of additional HHS students, asking if they can still change to the virtual option. We are checking into our options regarding the possibility of extending the deadline to making that determination and will share that in the next couple of days; however, the reality is that the situation may make that decision for us. If an extension is to be granted, the last day to Opt for such a change would be amended to Friday at 3pm of this week. Again, this would be a semester commitment and it is not possible for students to go back and forth between being in person or virtual. If the district closes and utilizes distance learning or goes to a hybrid model, that does not cause students to lose their ability to participate in athletics/activities; however, opting for a virtual learning enrollment does remove the option for students to participate in any school activities.

Following protocol, and in conjunction with the Health Department, the District has sent several students home who are currently quarantined due to being designated as a close contact to the positive case. The Varsity Football game scheduled for tonight against Putnam County at Highland is still on as scheduled at this point. As we have shared previously, we would encourage spectators to use the NFHS subscription to view the games instead of attending in person. If you do attend in person, please make sure to follow all recommended social distancing and face covering guidelines. Any further developments will be shared as they become available.
