Our students aren’t just learning about civics — they’re practicing it.
Junior High students at Highland have identified real problems in the communities they belong to (school, teams, churches, neighborhoods, city, county) and are now taking civic action.
They are:
✔ Identifying civic leaders and organizations
✔ Defining their role in the community
✔ Sending letters and emails to invite leaders to interviews and panel discussions
✔ Creating real solutions to real community issues
This work will be showcased at our Civics Fair on March 26 at Highland High School. Parents and community members are invited to attend!
One 8th Grade student will earn a cash prize and may advance their project to the next level of competition.
This project is funded through a micro-grant from the Bill of Rights Institute, and students will also participate in National Civics Week (March 9–13).
We are proud of these young civic leaders!

8th Grade Algebra students practiced writing equations of lines in different forms by making wanted posters. They created a line, then listed information about it like its name (equation in slope-intercept form), aliases (equations in standard form and point-slope form), points, slope, intercepts, and accomplices (equations of parallel and perpendicular lines).
