Happy World Theatre Day from Lewis County C-1 Drama Club!

There is something truly special about what happens on and off the stage at the Lewis Street Playhouse. The inside jokes in the wings, the friendships that grow stronger with every rehearsal, and the feeling of becoming part of something bigger than yourself.

At Highland, theatre is more than a performance. It’s a place where students discover confidence they didn’t know they had, where creativity is celebrated, and where every single person—on stage or behind the scenes—matters. Today, we celebrate our incredible casts both past and present, directors, volunteers, and supporters who make magic happen year after year. Thank you for believing in our students and for helping us tell stories that leave a lasting impact!

What do basketball courts, little free libraries, litter, crosswalks, and cemeteries all have in common? Civics!

What about discrimination, volleyball, vandalism, job creation, and our local parks? Civics!

What about foster care, sidewalk construction, outdoor classrooms, and school beautification? Civics!

Civics is the study of the rights and responsibilities of citizens and how people work together to shape and improve their communities.

The future of Lewis County communities looks bright! 🌟 We were proud to host a successful Civics Fair here at Highland High School, where our junior high students showcased their ideas, research, and passion for making a difference.

If you missed it—you missed out!

A big THANK YOU to our civic leaders and community organizations who came out to support our students and share the important work they do every day. Your involvement helps inspire the next generation of engaged citizens! 👏

And a HUGE thank you to the Bill of Rights Institute for funding our fair through the MyImpact Civics Grant—and for traveling all the way from Washington, DC, to see our students’ projects in action. Your support made this opportunity possible!

The Highland History Club hit the road and made the most of every minute on our KC trip!

We started off diving into history at the National WWI Museum and Memorial, where students got to experience exhibits and even see the Freedom Plane: Founding Documents on Tour—which was a pretty incredible moment bringing our nation’s story to life right in front of them. Standing inches from documents like the Treaty of Paris, a draft print of our nation's constitution, and an original engraving of our Declaration of Independence was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime moment!

From there, we headed to Union Station, Kansas City (which is history all by itself!), and explored the Immersive Titanic Exhibit—definitely a favorite stop for a lot of our group.

Day two took us to the National Frontier Trails Museum, where students connected what they had learned in the classroom to the real stories of westward expansion. We wrapped things up at the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum, digging into presidential history and walking away with a deeper appreciation for Truman’s impact and the legacy he left behind.

In between all the learning, there was plenty of great food, lots of laughs, and some serious competition… including laser tag, where the students proudly claim victory over Mr. Arnsman!

We’re so proud of this group—not just for how much they learned, but for how well they represented Highland. Trips like this are what make history come alive! Thank you to everyone who made this unforgettable trip possible!

Champions the home team from Clark County who won by the score of 240 to 140 resulting in our team competing within the consolation bracket where we took on the JV team from Monroe City who we defeated by the score of 220-30. It took us a while to get going but we eventually took 3rd place in the JV division.
