Recently, members of the Highland History Club took a day to care for one of Lewis County's oldest cemeteries, Riverview Cemetery in La Grange.
What started over a year ago while senior member Chris Gaus was laying wreaths for Wreaths Across America, was finally able to come to fruition.
A headstone dated from 1816 that was in desperate need of some attention, caught our attention, and from there, the plan began.
We were joined by Mrs. Susan Moore, who taught the students the proper method of cleaning headstones. We also were joined the mayor and administrator of La Grange, local media, Mrs. Peggy Steinbeck and Mr. Brad Davis.
Students not only properly cleaned these headstones, but they learned the stories of the people. Some of Lewis Counties earliest and most prominent citizens have been laid to rest in this portion of the cemetery. Veterans of wars from the Revolutionary and Civil War, to both World Wars also have been laid to rest this cemetery.
It was a wonderful sight to see the students taking such delight in this project. This is the History Clubs second cemetery cleaning. We hope this is just the beginning of great and lasting civics project!

The junior high track team competed in Clark County Middle School Relays Tuesday night. They held their own against some much larger teams and came home with quite a few medals.. The boys placed 5th and the girls placed 7th overall. Congratulations Cougars 🤎💛

Due to the significant amount of rain we have had over the past few days and the high likelihood of strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon beginning at 4pm we are postponing the 2026 Jerry Ball Relays. We hope to reschedule for April 22 depending on whether or not enough teams are willing to participate. GO COUGARS!!
