Bus 19 is back on the route, so students should arrive at their regular stops approximately 1/2 later than normal.

Bus 19 Dennis Owens will be delayed due to the slick road conditions near the elementary causing the bus to slide slightly into the ditch. There are no injuries and a bus is currently being sent to run the route as quickly as possible.

The varsity G/B basketball games scheduled for tonight at Brookfield will be played as scheduled. Girls at 6 boys to follow. Green tickets will be used to gain admission. GO COUGARS!!

Highland schools will be closed Friday (1/29/22) due to the current conditions of our gravel roads, city streets, & even some of the lettered/numbered roads. Regular snow day with No travel to Votech, but warmer temps today may allow for evening activities- this is still TBD.

Upon checking roads tonight, I have decided to wait until the morning to make a call on school tomorrow. The sun did wonder for the main roads - I will check gravel and town roads early and announce a final decision in the morning!

Highland Jr. and Snr. High School Parents and Students:
When the district implements distance learning days or snow days, students will be given time to complete missing work. A time will be set from the date of return to in-person learning to complete a mandatory homework lab and to be able to complete the missing work. If your student has missing work once we return to in person learning they will be assigned either an after or before school homework lab. If a student does not stay for the homework lab, the missing work will not be accepted. For more specific examples read the homework lab document http://bit.ly/HWKLABHS
Please call the high school office for any questions.

Quiz Bowl scheduled for today at Centralia has been cancelled. Reschedule is pending. GO COUGARS!!

Due to current road conditions and both Highland and South Shelby being closed due to weather the JV basketball games scheduled for tonight have been rescheduled to Wednesday Feb 3. GO COUGARS.

Highland Votech Students will not travel to Hannibal tomorrow either; however, many can still attend class via their Chromebooks. All Highland students need to be completing their past assignments from Distance Learning, Hybrid off-attendance days, and AMI days.

LCC1 will be closed tomorrow, Thursday 1/28/21, due to road conditions. In an effort to provide more in-person instruction & full educational days, this day will be a regular snow day with no new work expected of students and the attendance date will need to be made up.

Highland will be closed and utilizing an AMI day tomorrow (Wed 1/27). While the main roads are much better, the gravel roads are still snow packed and ice covered (including the road to HES), some of the town streets are still iced over, & I am confident the conditions will not improve overnight. In fact, the forecast includes more wintry weather right at morning route times.

Please read the following letter: https://bit.ly/2MpOH67 regarding Highland's return to school, snow days, and instructional models. I am hoping this clarifies some things and answers some questions. Heading out to check roads now -- update coming soon for tomorrow!

The varsity girls and boys basketball games versus Monroe City have been rescheduled to February 15, 2021. GO COUGARS!!

The Varsity G/B basketball games scheduled for tonight vs. Monroe City have been cancelled. Make-up date will be announced soon. GO COUGARS!!

Highland schools will be closed today, but will run it as an AMI day. Students will have assignments to complete to earn attendance for this day, as it will not be required to be made up. No Votech travel to Hannibal today, but kids can still access classes online. Teachers will not be at school, but will post assignments in Google Classroom, to student email, or have already provided snow day work for this situation.

Students can still access their Google classrooms and work on getting work caught up as we look to return to full in-person tomorrow. Votech students should still be able to access classes online in most cases.

This will be a traditional snow day, with no virtual learning or assignments due for today. Additionally, there will not be travel to Votech due to same concerns on road conditions.

Highland schools will be closed today, Monday (1/25) due to the forecast of ice accumulation and snow throughout the day.

Please read the following letter: https://bit.ly/3o7Izg8
regarding the return to in-person learning for a full 5-days per week at both the HES and HHS buildings. As long as weather doesn't delay us, Highland will be back to full in-person learning on Monday.

Melissa Miller from The Child Center will be in our School District the week of January 25th to present to students in Grades 5-8 the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education required sexual abuse awareness program. The age appropriate programs will teach the students how to enforce boundaries and educate them on how to report inappropriate conduct that can happen in person and online. Students in these grades have received a letter for Parents and Guardians with more information from Mrs. Wiskirchen in their email or Google Classrooms. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Wiskirchen at nwiskirchen@lewis.k12.mo.us.
