Current plans are to be “in person” for school tomorrow (1/4/21); however, road conditions will be evaluated this evening to determine if a change to Distance Learning will be needed or not.

LCC1 will return in the same learning instruction models (HES regular, HHS Hybrid). With active county cases still in the 70’s and the anticipated spike due to family gatherings over break, this will be the case for the foreseeable future.

LCC1 is under a Mask Mandate - remember this was required to allow for the relaxed quarantine rules at school! Please Review the following Mask Mandate Reminders: https://bit.ly/37vCZOj and make sure you & your children are properly masked when at school to assure less quarantines from school. See https://bit.ly/2KPpEbN for a graphic on how proper masking modifies quarantines due to exposure at school during the school day. Exposure outside of the instructional school day does not qualify for the relaxed quarantine rules!

Reminder: the option to elect for the Virtual Option for 2nd semester is available for students who demonstrated success (completed & passed all coursework) during first semester while in Virtual or for students who were “in person” learning during first semester, but now wish to switch to virtual. In order to make this designation, Parents must complete the SURVEY (https://bit.ly/3rSthib Link to Survey) and submit a signed CONSENT FORM (https://bit.ly/3q1bMeH Link to consent form) by Friday, January 8th, 2021. **Also, electing to be Virtual or In-Person is a semester long commitment. Please contact your attendance center/counselor tomorrow if you have questions.

Parents/Guardians/Faculty/Staff: Please do not attend school or school events if you cannot honestly answer NO to ALL of the questions in the current/updated DAILY WELLNESS CHECKLIST for attendance at LCC1: https://bit.ly/33SGygD. This form was updated at the end of November, so please understand that if you are exhibiting ANY of the symptoms listed, you should not attend school events.

Reduced Quarantine Times Reminder/Clarification: LCC1 did adopt the shortened (10 day) quarantine timeline for individuals who never exhibit any of the symptoms during the 10 day period. Additionally, those with no symptoms during quarantine can test out early (7 days minimum), but ONLY IF they have a negative test within the 48 hours prior to getting released. This means that to be released after day 7, there still can be no symptoms & obtaining a negative test result from day 5,6, or 7! Negative tests prior to the 48 hour window preceding the "hoped for" day of release from quarantine do nothing to reduce the quarantine time!

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays Cougar Nation!

Mrs. Bainter’s kindergarten class worked on making Christmas cards for a local nursing home that our cadet teacher works at so she is delivering them for us!

Today in third grade we started the process of growing our own ice crystals. When we left we were starting to see them. Can't wait to see what they look like tomorrow!

Today 5th graders were challenged to build the tallest Christmas tree they could using marshmallows and toothpicks.

The Highland boys basketball team defeats Canton in varsity action 67-47 while the Highland girls fall to a quality Lady Tiger team 68-54!! Great Lewis County action tonight at Highland!! GO COUGARS!!

Well, we had done so well, but at the end of the day today HHS got hit again. A positive student and a positive staff member! The student took out 1 (2 more quarantined but still allowed to attend school) classroom contacts, 6 (2 HS and 4 Elem) bus contacts, and the bus driver -- all due to improper wearing of masks by the individual as well as those quarantined. The staff member only impacted 2 students with quarantine (outside of school contact). We will still have school tomorrow as planned - remember 1:20pm dismissal!

Please remember that if you choose to attend tonight’s Varsity basketball games vs. Canton that masks are mandatory at all times and this mandate will be enforced unless your eating. Please help us protect activities and wear your mask!! GO COUGARS!!

HHS Drama Club is so excited to celebrate HES 5th grader Quinton Miller as he plays the role of Tiny Tim in Quincy Community Theatre’s production of A Christmas Carol! You can purchase a ticket and stream this timeless Christmas show beginning tonight! Visit 1qct.org for more information!
